New Voters Origin Story

I started New Voters when I was a junior in high school to register my senior class to vote. 7 years later, we remain dedicated to ensuring high school students are heard and prioritized when it comes to the decisions that impact our generation the most.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I get involved with New Voters?

If you’re a high school student, run a voter registration drive with us (tinyurl.com/runadrive)! You can learn more about how to do so here (voter reg drive page). If you’re not, refer a student (bit.ly/NVreferral) you know to run a drive with us! You can also subscribe to our newsletter to get updates on our work and ways to help out. If you have ideas on how to engage the youth in your community, we want to help you do it! Send your ideas to hello@new-voters.org to get started.

Why does the high school vote matter?

Young people are the largest and fastest growing voting block in the United States. 4 million new voters graduate high school every year, and at least 87% are eligible to register or vote by that time. However, the youth have the lowest voter turnout in elections. The issues young people care about are front-and-center in elections, from education to the environment, making youth turnout and high school voter registration not only important, but crucial to ensuring youth interests are priortized.

I’m not in high school - how can I help?

First and foremost, you can help us spread the word by referring a student  (bit.ly/NVreferral)! New Voters has the reach we do today because of peer-to-peer organizing, so talk to the people in your community about our work. If you’re able to, donating to us allows us to keep growing: $5 means one more student registered and lifelong civic engagement.

What is a voter registration drive?

A voter registration drive is any effort to get others to register to vote. There’s no one way to run a drive: you could go into every homeroom in your school, set up a table outside a local coffee shop, or text everyone you know the link to register.
